2:13 pm
who's here today. i know we've been all busy since the first of the year and i want to thank the supervisors for putting the resident first in everything we do. two weeks ago i had the privilege of gil the address. i said our city a strong and because of the create of our people and because of the physics responsibility of the decision we're taking and in attracting new jobs we continue to be that strong city. and whether it's been questions about our business tax reform or believe and infrastructure structure our city is strong
2:14 pm
because of the way we work hard together and putting people's priorities first. i want to continue that and wish our success in 2013 >> let's turn to the first question. >> thank you, mayor lee. i saw you on our bike during the clean up day and i want to address that. the maintenance mount or transportation agency recently rapidly it's plan on bicycle facilities. it supports everyone, however, i'm hearing growing concerns in district 1 and the citywide for better bicycling and publicity
2:15 pm
reality. currently we have less than one percent of the budget that is addressed for bicycling. how will i address the san francisco to be the leader in bicycling use >> thank you supervisor mar. i want to assure that the streets will save for all san franciscans especially for those who are on bicycle >> and this weekend i made my bicycle trip on the market south neighborhoods and i wanted to know first hand the use of bicycles in our cities. the capital improvement program represents all modes of travel
2:16 pm
in our city. so to look at just san francisco as a whole won't tell the whole story. recently, we applied for bicycles plans with the transportation authority. those 3 projects alone show improvements including millions of dollars in our bicycle network. i understand we applied for another million dollars for our city. those put together total millions of dollars in improvements and alternative the maintenance mount is projecting that their 5 year bicycling plan
2:17 pm
will increase of about 1 hundred and 18 percent. as you noted we have drafted the bicycle strategy and we know the improvement that are required to make san francisco a major city for bicycling identified in this strategy. lately i annunciated in my city address along are supervisor chiu we'll put together a task force and we'll have a task force that will invite transportation people from our kind state holder groups and our technology group to the table to
2:18 pm
make important decisions on consensus building on all your challenges. this is an important charge that people will report back to me and the chair of the board tom noland with recommendations to enhance the whole network. so in summary the bicycle strategy will be used as a guide to clearly define our guide for future improvements i looking forward to working with all of you >> i have the next question mr. mayor the board of supervisors is considered to allow tenancies
2:19 pm
he in common and be converted after a fee. i asked everyone to engage in decision. what protects would you support to stop the fuchsia housing to convert in our city? >> and alternative real estate investments that will lead us back to the debate. >> thank you mr. president, chu. i know this has been a hot topic. the spirit of our question i do want to point out that as one of my top priority as mayor is the production of housing. people for all over the world
2:20 pm
want to continue living here and want to move here. in spite of all we've done with affordable housing is still a big challenge. we need to balance this housing demand against all san francisco resident. your question references the pressure that the units are under and i agree this is an important issue. our response to this challenge to the board of supervisors has been comprehensive. in november we passed the housing fund and it will be over the next thirty years for the first time home buyers. those are the kind of homes with 4 thousand units under construction that will
2:21 pm
additional mitigate the pressure in san francisco. not to mention the 42 thousand unit planned all over the city. this mr. president, chu is a concrete response for the long demand for housing in our city. every new home helps to meet the demand and lottery bypass legislation has been something people have struggled with. we want more housing stability and i understand their concerns. i also see the argument that you have made without some thinking of how that lottery pool got so
2:22 pm
big. i can't say i have the majestic solution but i understand the strategy. it's the strategy we have used many times like on pensions and other things. i'm hoping a solution can be worked out that appraise san francisco families and others relief while protecting tenants rights, rights that we have worked so hard to improve. the only way we're going to meet the demand for housing is provided more housing. we can make meaningful improvements >> thank you our final
2:23 pm
question. thank you mr. president, chu. hello mr. mayor, i want to congrats you on your library programs and we want to say that we should have important poetry in this san francisco. and my question is: haiku i mentioned on one of the syllables so, please forgive me. the arts that deprivation we we
2:24 pm
is now mopes for the arts in san francisco and thank you for that question. as we all know san francisco has a thooifg arts section that is vital to our city but it's also a benefit to our tourism industry. it generates approximately 7.2 moifldz and supports jobs in san francisco. we have seen first hand how investing in the arts help attract and build new businesses and arts. from the store gallow to other
2:25 pm
theaters and central market corridor is once again the inspired districts that's especially supposed to be. 2013 is turning ought to be a great benefit here. we'll have new arts shops on the water. we have a beautiful new jazz center. besides bmw being a jazz center it's the only facility dedicated to jazz in the nation and once again san francisco is leading the way. and the more than art will break ground this year and under the new leadership of the arts commission we'll have now monies
2:26 pm
for the projects >> and the planning depth and the arts commissions over see the tote construction costs of the buildings in downtown san francisco to be allocated for art. you'll see the continued support for our art in our budget. as you, you know, or know it will comfort open spaces and parks and our most vulnerable parts in our city we will continue support for all of these projects in our budget. we do have a deficit for fiscal year 2013 and fourteen.
2:27 pm
so supervisor i appreciate and agree with you alejandro and i'm eager to work with you to get the arts priority in our city >> mr. mayor, i think that concludes our time. >> thank you supervisors for your questions as well. >> colleagues why do we go to our consent agendas. >> articles two through 4 those items are considered routine. >> colleagues would any one like to severe any of the items? >> on items 4 from chu to -
